The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society’s ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people.
As an integral, human beings cannot help express his feeling, and attitude by the appearance of them (the face look, the behavior, the word, the pronounce, etc.), and such appearance may give them out of something inside. Therefore, I approval the speaker’s statement reserved that the appearance could tell some about the people’s social value and ideas, but not much.
To most of us, controlling face look is not easy, in sometimes, we cannot manage to show our real feeling, like addicted, abhorrent, and scaring. Those figuration will reveal our preference, according to this, others could affirm what can really touch you, and what you truly value. Also the dress we are in can indicate our social idea either. The style is a mirror of your characteristic, and people may judge that which kind of party you prefer, the conservative or the radical.
For example, you have a friend who like to wear in ordinary suit and express strongly dislike about the war, you can tell that he tend to be a man who want join conservatives and he is a convinced pacifist. If he has a pet and really like to travel in forest or grassland to visit the wild animals, it is perfectly probable that he has joint the Animal Protection Institution.
However, all the inference above cannot be demonstrate only by the appearance, for the social idea and values are the choice in his mind. Thus we could not find out their real thoughts directly by the outside behaviors. Taking the example above, hardly can you know if he is a conservative, in spite that the experience and preference are not determined their mind. He might do hate the chairman of conservative, or he had joint it and find he do not like the rule of it. In this case, the social idea we just conclude is absolutely wrong.
In sum, the appearance of a person could be an important evidence when reckon his/her values and political preference, nonetheless, not the only evidence. To predict correctly, we should know more information, for instant, the people who familiar with him, the experience of him, the environment he in, even his parents religion. Only can we synthetically consider that information, the more correct answer can we get.
