Argument 144
According to the passage, the author considered that due to the lower increase rate of donation to the nonprofit groups, the education today is not priority for most people. And these differences in donation rates must caused by the realization that the educational institution requires funds are not as urgently as other institutions. Unfortunately, such conclusion is unwarranted.
To begin with the threshold problem, it is doubtable that if the level of increase can exactly reflect the real situation of the funds. The author displays some data of the rate, and the expansion of donation for education has only 3% of all. It tempts to express that as a result of lower rate in expanding, the funds of nonprofit group for education is less than the funds for religious. Actually, the amounts of funds are not provided, and how much the educational donation has increased is empty. It is perfectly probable that the funds of education last year is big enough that 3% increasing means times larger than the 25% increasing in religious donation, and people still give high priority to the education institution. Therefore, the writer fails to prove the less increase is necessary related to the less priority.
Even assuming the strong correlation between the expansion and numerical value of funds, the passage has flaws in demonstrating that the poll indicates that people today consider the education is not the preferential. In fact, there is no evidence to support such assertion, for the nonprofit groups cannot stand of all the donation’s origin. Commonsense forms me that the education are obtained great support from their alumni.
Even assuming that the people do think the education is not their first choice to donate, the author still fails to illustrate that such phenomenon is caused by the perception that education institution is less in need of donations. The reason seems to be variety. Maybe they cannot afford to donate, or they expect others to do so. As the same time, they might think the funds should paid by the national revenue.
To sum up, to persuade others, the author needs to give more evidence to support his point.
